PROJECT
Canopy by Hilton London City is a vibrant hotel in an Excellent Location, close to Tower Bridge & Spitalfields Market in London. The hotel scheme is comprised of 3 blocks that have seen the existing façade removed leaving the superstructure remaining. All 3 blocks have a new façade based on innovative bespoke unitised solutions with iconic feature fins, which not only act as shading devices to enhance the performance of the building but also create a very dynamic appearance to contribute to the stunning architecture.
CHALLEGES
The structure of the building is composed of reinforced concrete with low concrete cover meters. The ribbed and flat slabs need to achieve 120 minutes of fire resistance in order to comply with the Fire strategy.
SOLUTIONS
The IDF team conducted a detailed cover meter survey at the construction site and analysed the collected data using their specific methodology. Based on this analysis, IDF has designed a unique fire protection solution that guarantees 120 minutes of passive fire protection while also saving space and time for the proposed fire protection application within the hotel. As a result, the project was able to achieve both structural stability in case of fire and a cost-effective solution.
